Flapjacks

They come in all sizes, shapes, flavours and most of the time in brightly coloured wrappings. Flapjacks.

You can buy them at your local supermarket, but why should you?

You can make them yourself, controlling what you put into them. Do you just want a basic bake? Or aiming for something more adventurous, like comfit fruits or nuts? It all goes!

Throw the butter, sugar and honey into a pan and heat on a low fire until everything melts down. Stir to dissolve, then stir your oats in. Make sure everything gets coated in the butter-sugar-honey mixture, so it will all stick together when baked.

Preheat your oven at 180 degrees Celsius (that’s about 350 Fahrenheit). Line a shallow baking tray with baking paper and pour the oats in. Using the back of a spoon, flatten and compress the surface. Make sure you push it neatly into the corner of your baking tray.

Slide it into the oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until you get a nice, dark golden colour. Let it cool fully, before you cut it into the sizes you want.
